General information, not advice

Radio & Range publishes general information about walkie-talkies, FRS and GMRS radios and the gear that goes with them. It is information only. It is not legal, technical or safety advice, and it is not a guarantee that any radio will reach a given distance on your ground. Our summaries of FCC rules (licensing, power, channels and fees) link to fcc.gov and 47 CFR Part 95 and show the date they were checked, but the FCC can change its rules and sets its fees annually. You are responsible for confirming the current rules with the FCC before you buy, license or transmit.

Your radio, your responsibility

You are responsible for how you use any radio: getting a GMRS license where one is required, using equipment certified for the service you transmit on, and staying within the FCC's power and channel rules. We don't give advice on modifying, unlocking or reprogramming radios to transmit outside their certification, and nothing on this site authorizes you to transmit on any frequency. Iron Mako Media is not responsible for any fine, penalty, interference complaint or loss that results from how you operate a radio. Follow the maker's instructions and safety guidance, including for batteries and charging. Radios are not a substitute for calling 911.

Accuracy and changes

We work to keep specifications, model names, range figures and rule summaries accurate, and every figure links to its source. Range numbers are the makers' advertised claims, not our measurements. Makers update models and listings often, and we can make mistakes, so check the maker or retailer before you buy. If you spot an error, tell us and we'll correct it.

Prices, availability and purchases

Prices and availability are set by the retailer and change often, which is why we don't print them. When you click a buy button you leave our site, and any purchase is between you and that retailer under its terms, shipping and return policies. We don't sell radios and can't help with orders.

The text, rankings, rubric and page designs on this site are owned by Iron Mako Media unless otherwise noted. You're welcome to link to any page and to quote short passages with attribution. Please don't republish whole pages or scrape the site. Stock photographs are used under their license and remain the property of their photographers.

The site is provided “as is.” To the fullest extent permitted by law, Iron Mako Media is not liable for any loss or injury arising from your use of the site or of any product or method discussed on it. Some jurisdictions don't allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
